Geographical Text Analysis (GTA) is a relatively recent development in the approach to studying, analysing, and extracting the content of textual sources. Combining techniques from Natural Language Processing (NLP), Corpus Linguistics, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), GTA offers a new methodology for employing these computational tools in Humanities research. After completing this module, learners will be able to: - Use Recogito to georeference place names in two historical sources. - Use other sources to locate coordinates for places unidentified within Recogito - Convert textual data into a GeoPackage, which can be edited and cleaned with GIS software such as QGIS. - Use and explore data from online gazetteers, such as GeoNames, and join it with their data.
