Two Part Workshop “Iconclass – Content Classification and Technical Features”
In cooperation with the data competence centre HERMES, NFDI4Culture is hosting a two part online workshop on “Iconclass – Content Classification and Technical Features”.
On Monday 30 June 2025 (10–1 pm) part one of the workshop will focus on content classification of cultural works (e. g. images, 3D models) and provide an introduction to the comprehensive classification system Iconclass. The workshop will be illustrated by examples and use cases from collections of the NFDI4Culture communities. It will include a practical demonstration of the classification system as well as information on the role of standard vocabulary in general.
On Tuesday 1 July 2025 (10–1 pm) part two will focus on the integration of Iconclass into databases and give recommendations on how to share Iconclass metadata in Linked Open Data applications. The workshop will show the new technical features of the Iconclass browser as well as highlight Iconclass examples from the NFDI4Culture community.
In both workshops, selected use cases will be presented and participants will be able to exchange and discuss ideas in breakout sessions. We look forward to having speakers, such as Hans Brandhorst (acting editor of Iconclass), Etienne Posthumus (research software engineer at Iconclass) and Angela Kailus (associate director at Deutschen Dokumentationszentrum für Kunstgeschichte - Bildarchiv Foto Marburg) on board.
Please note that the workshop will be held in English.
You can register via the NFDI4Culture Indico Event System (confirmations will be sent out immediately, you will receive the zoom link a few days prior to the event. Check your spam folder just in case): https://events.nfdi4culture.de/event/44/
