Digital Manuscript Workflows in the Browser: The MANO Platform
On June 23rd 2026 from 10:30-12:00am Michela Parma (Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz) will talk about “Digital Manuscript Workflows in the Browser: The MANO Platform”.
MANO – Manuscripts Online (https://mano-project.github.io/) is a browser-based platform designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in digital manuscript studies. While students often learn the principles of standards such as TEI-XML, opportunities to engage with complete digitisation workflows remain limited.
MANO addresses this challenge by providing an accessible environment where users can create manuscript metadata and work with transcriptions using intuitive tools directly in the browser. The platform integrates GitHub for data storage and resource sharing, supporting transparency, reuse, and collaborative contributions.
By simplifying technical barriers while maintaining established scholarly standards, MANO enables hands-on engagement with structured manuscript data. The platform functions both as a pedagogical environment and as a collaborative space where students and researchers can experiment with digital methods and develop practical skills in digital humanities.
